Starting in Zimbabwe, the book describes the horrific slaughter of almost a whole village, where only moments earlier the most interesting thing for Deo was to play football. Maybe it’s impossible to completely stamp out prejudice towards ‘the different’ outsider, but we must try. Surely everyone who reads Michael Williams’ Now Is the Time for Running, will understand why people have to move, and can sympathise? This journey book is as important as many others before it, and it would be good to use this type of story in schools.

I would rate this book 4.5 stars out of 5 stars.It would seem that no matter how many wonderful books are written on the subject of (legal or illegal) immigrants and asylum seekers or anyone else who happens to end up wandering from one place to another, people still don’t understand, and they still persecute those forced to go somewhere they don’t ‘properly belong.’ I think people ages 12 to adult would enjoy reading this book. It is hard to stop reading it because as soon as you think it is going to get boring something unexpected happens. Now Is The Time For Running is a exciting, and sad book. It was similar to other books because it involved sports. This book was similar to some of the other books I have read. Also the main characters lived in poverty. I’ve never read another book like this because the book was set in a foreign country. There was also a tragedy in South Africa. They also had to pass threw a park filled with wild and hungry animals. One of the dangerous things they did was swim threw a river filled with alligators. Along the way they had to do lots of dangerous things. Deo and Innocent emigrated from Zimbabwe to South Africa. They voted wrong in the presidential election. They fled because soldiers were killing people in their village. In Now Is The Time For Running the brothers Innocent and Deo flee from their village in Zimbabwe.

I think that Now Is The Time For Running was an exciting book to read.
